Trinity Western University Bombers
The Trinity Western University Bombers are a non-contact ice hockey team that compete in the Cross Mainland Church Hockey League (CMCHL). Ben Kotanen and Kelly Hart started the Bombers in 2000, and the team has since grown in size and popularity. The Bombers won the CMCHL Championship in 2004-2005 by defeating the Pacific Community Desert Dogs 3-2. In 2005-2006, the Bombers had an unmatched season having a 14 game unbeaten (13-0-1) streak at the end of the season and into the playoffs. The Bombers also clinched the Campbell Conference Title for the second year in a row. In a hard fought game, the Bombers fell in the championship game by a score of 3-2 to the Willingdon Avalanche. The Bombers continued their success in 2007, winning the CMCHL league again. Despite their success on the ice, the Bombers are best know at TWU for their advertising and showmanship. General Manager Gareth Jones and coach Jon McCauley continue to mimic big league hockey in their "press conferences", pre-game rituals and fan signing sessions. At the recent home opener, the team raised their previous season championship banner prior to facing off against their cross-campus rivals[1].
